In 2022, I was fortunate enough to secure some fruit from Glenhope Estate, a 91-acre vineyard in the northern pocket of the Macedon Ranges. The vineyard was originally planted in 1995/96 and sits at an elevation of approximately 500m and on granite soil.
A unique blend of three varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec.
Each parcel of fruit was picked at the end of April. 85% of each variety was destemmed (15% remained whole bunch), then fermented independently over 2 to 3 weeks (depending upon the variety), with twice daily punch downs. Each variety was aged separately for 14 months in aged French barriques (with 2 new French “Vicard” barriques being used for the Cabernet Sauvignon component). The wine was blended in early July 2023, before being bottled in early August. An intriguing blend, that keeps you going back for more. Juicy and elegant, refined tannin and a soft delicate finish.
