The addition of viognier occurred at the crusher, cold soak, yeast inoculation, post-ferment maceration 30 days, maturation in French barriques (30% new) for 12 months, fined, filtered. If drinkers ever wonder what dark and brooding means in a tasting note, here is a perfect example. There is a darkness in fruit colour - dark plums, black fruits, brown spices, pastille - and even the florals of violet and cherry/orange blossom are underplayed. The tone is sophisticated, savoury and a bit of a slow burn as the wine reveals itself. Further ageing required.
