The MC stands for (Multi Clone) as when planting the vineyard 20 years ago we put in four different clones of Shiraz with the idea in mind to increase the complexity of the wine as each clone, even though all Shiraz, do give differing aromatics and palate flavours.
The wine traditionally spend a year and a half in a mix of new and older Puncheons (500lt) barrels. Including both French and American oaks. The MC Shiraz style is of the more full bodied Heathcote Shiraz that’s displays the weather conditions of that vintage and the regional characteristics of the Heathcote Terrior.
I have been suggesting to club members when ordering the MC to take a mix of both vintages. Though they both display Heathcote regionality and Flynns style, they vary in character which is what I love about these wines - displaying Mother Nature's effects year-on-year. The 2016 has elevated aromatics and a little less weight on the palate, while the 2015 is dark and brooding, full on the palate
